Caribbean Airlines

…I‘m just saying you know…cuz you never know if Caribbean Airlines will get into some trouble again, and, well, sometimes it’s good to know what your options are. This particular option comes with sponsorship and a relatively cheap paint job.

I will miss BWee. I know people had problems and I have had occasion to be tough with staff in Piarco and Barbados, but I’ve always had good service. And BWee in my mind wasn’t a cookie-cutter unimaginative Caribbean name like Caribbean Airlines. I know it was unimaginative in its day “british west india airways” but it evolved.

That’s too bad. These comments near kill me fuss ah laugh so hard.
Now my brother have to find a new job. He’s been flying for them for a short while
By Hottie Hottie on Nov 3, 2006 | Reply
What’s going to happen to their staff? Will they be absorbed by Carib Air or are they being retrenched? Aside from the inevitable delays I liked BWIA. Wait. Meh BWIA frequent Flyer Miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHIT!
As an aside, I met a couple of Ethiopian guys up here who travelled on BWIA - and LOVE Trinindad btw - who called it Better Walk If Able. I thought it hilarious. Mani, careful with them boots eh.
By ed on Nov 3, 2006 | Reply
Hottie, they are laying off everybody, and then re-hiring some fraction of them.
What amazes me is that the marketing geniuses who run BWIA/Caribbean Air still haven’t bought the caribbeanairlines.com domain name! It still belongs to some travel agency! Not a good sign for those of us who are hoping for a better run airline…..
I also have to be in the minority and say that I hated BWIA, and always avoided them if I could. I was so happy when Continental starting flying from NYC to POS. BWIA’s check-in process was always a nightmare, they would always lose my bags (and not give a shit about it), mostly because they had let tantie and nenen check like, 15 bags each and so the cargo hold got full. Good riddance.
(No offense to anyone’s tantie or nenen, who I’m sure are lovely people.)

Hottie - The whole plane make from cooler? lol. Well we might have to put two handle on the side too. Also they are rehiring. I saw an ad in the paper this week for positions. So I’m sure a lot of them will get rehired. I really can’t remember who sad Better Walk if Able. Was that Sprang?
Lime - Only on weekends.
Chennette - I think the new name might help with brand awareness though.
Atasha - Atasha, but they rehiring though.
Ed - Actually they bought www.caribbean-airlines.com. Yuh ragging up them people dem tantie, lol.
By Sanjiva on Nov 3, 2006 | Reply
There is actually a precedent: http://www.flykingfisher.com/
I much prefer Carib though

i hope this new airline have good food. I used to like bwee food, and gettin Fruta to drink haha. Right before the news hit I booked American or this xmas, IT WAS CHEAPER. yuh know what, i think i will do a “bwee adventures” post…
By Hottie Hottie on Nov 3, 2006 | Reply
Mani, I would like to see the man that carrying it.
By ed on Nov 3, 2006 | Reply
Ah, ok. Still, they should buy the hyphen-free version too, don’t you think?
Nothing personal against the tanties and them. I just wish they wouldn’t walk with so much luggage. So many bags, and each bag so full that they have to tape it up to keep it from bursting. And don’t even get me started on the people who walk with their stuff in boxes.
Hottie, the miles will be usable on Caribbean-airlines. Doh study it.
By Hottie Hottie on Nov 3, 2006 | Reply
Phew! Them London to Sport of Pain miles is some SERIOUS miles yuh know. Thanks eh Ed. And yeah, some ah dem tantie in a mess. At least they stop bringing the whole village out in diesel truck and thing to wave them off.
By boysieringo on Nov 3, 2006 | Reply
What allyuh sayin? The maxi-load of villagers coming to say goodbye and 4 different types of tape strapping up a blue and white crocus-bag looking grip is what makes travellin home fun’! I like to bawl down de place in jfk behind meh family it makes them feel at home and the embarassment is priceless!! Wait till they get like spirit and allyuh cyah even get water self. Yuh will be bawlin for yuh tantie and nenen then.

By Mani on Nov 4, 2006 | Reply
Hottie, is not only diesel truck, is big maxi. I think that kind of died with the waving gallery. Why did we have a waving gallery anyway?
Ed, yeah I think the non hyphenated version is better.
Boysie, lol, exactly the maxi load of people to say bye. But ah never bawl down ah airport yet. I mus try it.
ttfootball, people does clap when the plane touch down? lol, well look at thing I miss nah. I could imagine the faces of the Brits and Americans.
Well Alexia, you give me the laugh of the day. But as Hottie say, I doh blame yuh. She looks and dresses like a man. She is always wearing a man’s style suit. She’s actually daughter of ex Chief Justice Anthony lucky. But Alexia, you real out of it gyul? How long you away now? In any case, she’s an ex-UNC politician, but still a member of parliament now alligned with Dooks.

Mani, Trinis _love_ to clap when the plane lands! (but only coming TO Trinidad. They don’t clap when we land at JFK because they vex.) Actually, it’s some kind of third world thing. I flew to Brazil once, and they were all about the clapping too, as were the Turks. A Venezuelan friend has told me they do it there too. I guess those of us from developing countries have low expectations or something….
By Alexia on Nov 4, 2006 | Reply
hey ed u said “is some kind a thrid world thing” why can it be they happy to be home cause as much as we like foreing there’s no place like home!
By Chennette on Nov 4, 2006 | Reply
The first time I heard clapping on a plane was AA arriving in Puerto Rico. I was asleep and although the landing more or less woke me up, I was a bit dazed and wondered what did I miss??!!?? did we have a bad patch? had the plane been in danger of crashing?? What??? It really scared me the idea that the whole plane felt it necessary to applaud the landing.
I thought it was a Latin American thing - see it on flights to Miami, Belize etc at times when many of the passengers are hispanohablantes. Can’t say I have noticed it that much arriving in Trinidad, but then I am usually arriving from Guyana or Barbados or something.
By ed on Nov 4, 2006 | Reply
Alexia, I didn’t mean that in a bad way at all! I’m from Trinidad, after all, so the third world is mine too, and I’m proud. And yeah, it’s totally about being happy to be back home, that’s why it only happens when you land in POS, not when you fly back to the cold. I was just saying that it seems to be a common habit as far away as Turkey, and the only thread is that it’s been in developing countries.
By Alexia on Nov 4, 2006 | Reply
Ok ed good I almost thought u were converted.
By Hottie Hottie on Nov 4, 2006 | Reply
LOL! LOL! Well I can safely say I was never in a plane and everybody clap during the landing. I would like to experience it though.
By Mani on Nov 5, 2006 | Reply
Well congratulations Alexia, what were the other two options besides Spain?
Well I’m kind of jealous that you all have heard the clapping and I haven’t.

ROFL. By the way, have I ever mentioned that I think the Caribbean Airlines paint job is hideous?
By Hottie Hottie on Nov 5, 2006 | Reply
Mani, whey yuh blog was earlier boy?
By Atasha on Nov 6, 2006 | Reply
My brother never even mentioned that they re-hiring. He never complain to me about them either but I don’t think he want to work with them anyway. He said he want to move his family to Canada next year and he want to work for some airline over there.
By Mani on Nov 6, 2006 | Reply
Sirius, yeah it is bad. I like the humming bird, but I hate the lettering.
Hottie, I have no idea….on Sunday night it just seemed to disappear for no reason.
Atasha, yeah man, they rehiring.
